Nelson City Council - Solar Saver Scheme
The Solar Saver Scheme is the first of its kind in New Zealand. It allows residents to choose a solar hot water system from one of the four suppliers involved in the scheme. The cost of the system is met by the Council and residents pay the cost back to Council, including 7.8% interest per annum, as a targeted rate on their property over ten years.
Homeowners also have the option of paying the loan back earlier, if they want to, which will reduce the amount of interest to be paid. If the house is sold before the loan is paid off, the rate remains with the property, not the homeowner.
Nelson residents who want to be part of this scheme can register their name and contact details with the Council on 546 0200 or by emailing enquiries@ncc.govt.nz
Anyone who registers now will be able to take part in the scheme from July 2010 onwards, when 500 people will be able to participate each year. However, no one is committed to participating until they sign a purchase agreement.
Why is Nelson City Council running Solar Saver?
The overall goal is to increase the uptake of solar hot water systems in the Nelson City Council area. This will yield both economic and environmental benefits over the long term. Council has shown its commitment to making it easier for people to choose solar power by waiving building consent fees and streamlining the consent process. These initiatives are expected to give the solar industry in Nelson a huge boost, with the intention of making our city the solar centre of New Zealand.
Is Solar Technology a supplier for the scheme?
Solar Technology is proud to have been selected as a supplier to the NCC solar saver scheme.

Solar Technology Systems has been selected as the preferred supplier for Placemakers New Zealand, so now Solar Technology quality is even more accessible to New Zealanders.
