A PV solar off-grid system
Power is generated from the PV (Photovoltaic) solar panels, wind generator, mini hydro or a combination of these sources and is delivered to the control centre. The control centre is made up of an inverter/charger, charge controller, circuit protection and monitoring equipment. The charge controller determines the amount of energy the batteries require at any one time from the generation sources and protects them from over charging. The inverter/charger converts DC power stored in the battery bank to 230vac for the home. If there is insufficient renewable generation to maintain the battery bank, the inverter/charger will automatically start the back up generator and become a battery charger to quickly charge up the batteries.
